Street Art Sessions
27/08/2005 - 28/08/2005
During a large-scale redevelopment on Priors Park estate in 2005, the artdepot secured funding and engaged nationally acclaimed graffiti artists to work their magic on 100 metres of hoarding.
Graff artist Mark Stankovitch was employed to run preliminary workshops with local teenagers. He taught them about techniques, history and responsibility. He wetted their appetites so much that 16 of them turned up on two consecutive weekends and then for the final 2-day event.
Young people worked alongside 20 seasoned artists to create a huge artwork, which ran along a busy public footpath through the vineyards behind Tewkesbury Abbey.
A large marquee housed break dancing and M.C ing workshops where members of the public could drop in and learn techniques from some of the countries finest Dj’s and street dancers.
The atmosphere over the two days was electric and was particularly well received by the younger local residents whose lives had been disrupted by the redevelopment of their homes.
After the event some of the boards were displayed in Tewkesbury Abbey.
